Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc Rose

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc Rose

The banks of the Awatere Valley and Wairau River in Marlborough are home to our Southbank Estate Vineyards.

Long summer days, cool nights and free–draining gravel soils provide optimal growing conditions, allowing our grapes to ripen slowly and develop full concentrated flavours. Our attentive vineyard and winemaking team selectively harvest parcels of fruit that create full-flavoured, intense varietal wine.

The 2012 vintage in Marlborough experienced a cooler spring with delayed bud burst, followed by damp conditions in the summer month of December that led to slow growth of the fruit. This created smaller bunches of fruit with intensity and concentrated flavour.

Two parcels of Sauvignon Blanc from the Awatere valley and two from our Wairau valley vineyards were selected to blend this wine. The parcels were harvested individually over one day. The fruit was crushed, de-stemmed and gently pressed. The juice was cold settled for 72 hours, after which the clear juice was racked off, followed by a long cool fermentation in stainless steel to capture and enhance the fruit flavours.

The Pinot Noir was harvested separately. It was then left on skins for a period of 12 hours, then pressed and fermented separately using selected yeasts. The parcels were then blended, (92% Sauvignon Blanc, 8% Pinot Noir) stabilised and bottled.

Tasting Notes
